Volunteer Spotlight: Kathy Sturdevant
In the weeks leading up to Website Weekend LA 2016, we’ll be shining the spotlight on some of the volunteers who will be donating their time and talent during the event to help build websites for local nonprofit organizations that are doing good in the community. Today, we meet Kathy Sturdevant!
What’s your day job?
Software: I am experienced in Software Quality Assurance testing and trained in Project Management
How will you be using your experience to help during Website Weekend?
I am so excited to be a project manager for this event! I am applying my years of experience in SDLC with requirements gathering, organizing, collaborating, and working with customers to create a project plan for my team.
What was your favorite project that you ever worked on?
My favorite technology project was Mars Pathfinder— the first Mars rover. It was a ground-breaking mission with a phenomenal team. My favorite personal project was converting my front lawn to 100% California native plants in the style of an English cottage garden.
Why are you excited about Website Weekend?
I am excited because I get to apply my skills as part of a talented team of women and men to create a valuable product for a rewarding organization— each of us brings our different talents and skill sets, and we combine them to build more than we could as individuals.
What’s your favorite book, movie or tv show?
Favorite Book: Mrs. Mike — a favorite from adolescence that was co-authored by the man who eventually became my college math professor!
What’s your favorite color?
It’s hard to choose just one, but I do favor green, especially chartreuse, lime, and 1940s green. (Shout out to the awesome and under appreciated brown!)
